The Batumi Aquarium opened in 1968 next to the dolphinarium and is small but reasonably well kept. Most of the tanks hold Black Sea species — anchovy, mullet, flatfish, the rare Black Sea sturgeon — with a separate section for tropical and freshwater displays. The building itself is a low concrete pavilion of the late Soviet style, looking out across the boulevard to the sea.
It is the kind of place to combine with a beach day on a hot afternoon when you need an hour in air conditioning. Children enjoy it; adults will find it modest but pleasant.
