The Batumi Dolphinarium opened in 1975 and is one of the few remaining Soviet-era dolphinariums on the Black Sea. The main attraction is a daily dolphin show in a large indoor pool with stadium seating around it. Outside show times you can pay to swim with the dolphins, or have your photograph taken with one — the kind of activities that some travellers will want to think hard about before joining in.
It is a popular family stop, especially with Georgian and Russian holiday-makers, but the welfare conditions and the small size of the pools are not what they would be in a modern Western aquarium. Worth knowing before going in.
