The Batumi Piazza opened in 2009 and is a deliberate, slightly theatrical reimagining of an Italian square — paved in stone, surrounded by buildings with frescoes and stained-glass facades, with a clock tower at one end. It can feel a little staged in daylight, but at night, when the cafes spill out into the square and a free concert is on the stage, it works.
The architecture deliberately echoes Venice: there is a campanile, a loggia, and reproductions of classical sculptures. Several of the buildings facing the piazza house hotels and restaurants. It is one of the most reliable places in Batumi for an evening out.
