Europe Square (Evropas Moedani) is the pedestrian heart of Batumi's old town — a triangular open space bordered by pastel-painted nineteenth-century facades, with the Statue of Medea rising in the middle. The buildings are mostly merchants' houses and small hotels from the era when Batumi was a Russian-imperial oil-export port, with ornate balconies, columns, and the occasional astronomical clock.
The square hosts free outdoor concerts on summer evenings, and the cafes that line it are a good place to slow down for an hour. Several of the old town's most walkable streets — Memed Abashidze, Parnavaz Mepe, Rustaveli — radiate from here.
