Tomb of Gul Baba

Northernmost Islamic pilgrimage site, in a quiet rose garden

Address Mecset utca 14
Opening Hours 10:00-18:00 Tue-Sun

Gul Baba was an Ottoman dervish whose name means Father of Roses; he is said to have introduced roses to Budapest. He died during the capture of Buda in 1541, and his tomb on a quiet Buda hillside is the northernmost place of Islamic pilgrimage in the world. The mausoleum was beautifully restored in 2018 and the surrounding rose garden makes it a peaceful stop away from the crowds.
