The former Plac Zgody, the main square of the Krakow Ghetto in Podgorze and the assembly point for its deportations. The stark memorial of empty chairs, designed by Piotr Lewicki and Kazimierz Latak, turns the whole square into a monument. The Eagle Pharmacy stands on one corner and Schindler's Factory is a short walk east.
Ghetto Heroes' Square
Former Ghetto deportation square in Podgórze, now a memorial with 68 empty metal chairs
A story
The square's 70 oversized bronze chairs, installed in 2005, stand for the furniture left scattered in the streets after the ghetto was emptied in 1943; it was from this square that Jews were marched to the trains for Belzec and Auschwitz.
