Great War Island

A protected river island at the Sava-Danube confluence with beaches and birdlife

Great War Island sits where the Sava meets the Danube, directly opposite Belgrade's fortress and Zemun. Despite being so close to the city, much of it remains protected wetland and woodland, important for birds and river ecology.

In summer, visitors usually know it through Lido Beach, reached by a seasonal pontoon bridge from Zemun. Outside beach season it is more about views, birdlife, and understanding how Belgrade's rivers shape the city.
