Savamala

Savamala is the old portside quarter of Belgrade, running along the Sava riverbank south of Branko's Bridge — formerly a warehouse and industrial district, now the centre of the city's contemporary cultural life. The conversion happened gradually from the mid-2000s, when artists and galleries moved into the abandoned 19th-century warehouse buildings along Karađorđeva and Savska streets. It is now where you find the best bars, independent cinemas, design studios, and weekend markets.

The Mikser House complex — a former metalwork factory — became the hub of the creative quarter and hosts events, pop-up markets, and festivals. The Bitef Art Cafe draws a late crowd. At night, the riverside floating clubs known as splavovi moor along the Sava quay nearby, and in summer the whole area becomes the liveliest part of the city. During the day it is quieter, good for coffee and gallery browsing.
