Aeropuerto Olaya Herrera

City-centre airport for domestic flights to Colombia's smaller towns

Address Carrera 65A No. 13-157

The smaller of Medellin's two airports, on the southern edge of the city in the middle of the valley floor. Handles propeller-aircraft flights to dozens of smaller Colombian destinations the bigger José María Córdova airport at Rionegro does not serve — Capurganá on the Caribbean coast, the Pacific coast surf towns, regional flights through the Andes. Carlos Gardel died here in 1935 when his plane collided on the runway, a fact still commemorated by a small plaque.
