Sheriff Street

Georgetown's main strip of restaurants, bars, and nightlife

Sheriff Street runs north-south through the Campbellville district and is Georgetown's strip for eating, drinking, and going out late. Restaurants, bars, clubs, pool halls, and the city's late-night fast food line both sides. The crowd is a mix of Guyanese, expats, and oil-industry workers, and the energy peaks late on Friday and Saturday nights.

Use licensed taxis to get here and to leave — the street itself is well-policed but the surrounding blocks are less so. Most of the better bars, including Palm Court and several mid-range restaurants, are on or near this strip.
