A white stupa in the centre of Thimphu, built in 1974 as a memorial to the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The chorten is an active place of worship: throughout the day, elderly Bhutanese circumambulate it spinning prayer wheels and reciting mantras. The sight of devotees making their rounds is one of the most vivid everyday encounters available to visitors in Thimphu. Open daily.
