Thimphu's main market runs on Saturday and Sunday on the east bank of the Wang Chhu river, next to Tashicho Dzong. It is the largest market in Bhutan, selling fresh produce, grains, dried chillies, cheese, and imported goods from India and Nepal. The fresh food section — piles of red chillies, blocks of Bhutanese cheese, fresh vegetables — is the most interesting part. Worth at least an hour on a weekend morning.
