The National Museum of Bhutan, housed in a purpose-built building near Simtokha in southern Thimphu, covers the country's history, culture, and natural environment through an extensive collection. Galleries cover traditional dress, religious objects, weapons, coins, textiles, and natural history specimens. The museum is one of the more thorough introductions available to Bhutanese culture in one place. A newer extension focuses on the country's biodiversity and conservation history. Allow 2–3 hours. The original museum location above Paro is still worth visiting separately.
