Norzin Lam

Thimphu's main commercial street, connecting the town centre to the market

The principal street of Thimphu, running south from the Memorial Chorten to the clock tower square and beyond. Norzin Lam is the best walk for understanding the city's daily life: monks in maroon robes pass office workers in traditional gho, tourists negotiate with handicraft sellers, and the traffic moves with notable patience for a capital city. The street-level shops sell everything from mobile phones to Bhutanese boots. In the evenings, food stalls appear selling steamed momos, and the pavement becomes a slow promenade.
