Thimphu is unlike any other capital city: it has no traffic lights (a policeman directs traffic at the main intersection), new buildings must follow traditional Bhutanese architectural styles, and the city has a calm, unhurried pace unusual in an Asian capital. The Tashicho Dzong, the Memorial Chorten, and the weekend market are the main sights. The National Museum and Simtokha Dzong are close by.
