Kubah, about 20 km west of Kuching, is smaller and less famous than Bako but genuinely rewarding for forest walks. The park covers sandstone hills in mixed dipterocarp forest, with several well-marked trails leading to waterfalls and to summit viewpoints. The park is known for an exceptional diversity of palms — over 90 species recorded — and for frogs; it is one of the best spots in Borneo for nocturnal frog-watching.
The Matang Wildlife Centre, adjacent to Kubah, is a rehabilitation facility for wildlife confiscated from illegal traders. It has resident orangutans, sun bears, hornbills, and crocodiles in large enclosures. It is less naturalistic than Semenggoh but more informative about the wildlife trade and its consequences. The park can be reached by bus from Kuching; the journey takes about 45 minutes.
