Sarawak Orchid Garden sits across the river from central Kuching, near the Astana, and gives a focused look at the flower most closely associated with the state. The garden is landscaped rather than wild, with native and hybrid orchids arranged in shaded beds and display areas. It is especially rewarding when plants are in bloom, but even outside peak flowering it makes a calm break from the waterfront.
Combine it with a river crossing, the Astana views, and the nearby Malay kampung side of Kuching. The garden is compact, so allow less than an hour unless you are a serious plant person. Bring water; the humidity can make even a gentle stroll feel slow.
