The Santubong Peninsula is Kuching's easiest escape into proper coastal rainforest. The slopes of Mount Santubong rise above mangroves and beach villages, with trails that move quickly from humid lowland forest into steeper, rooty climbing terrain.
It works best as a full-day outing from Kuching, combining a forest walk with the nearby cultural village or the Damai beaches. The mountain trail is rougher than it looks on the map, so start early, carry water, and do not treat it as a casual city stroll.
