Santubong National Park

Rainforest mountain park north of Kuching, with steep trails, beach views, and a strong sense of coastal Borneo.

Santubong National Park is the rainforest mountain escape closest to Kuching's coast. The park protects the slopes of Mount Santubong, where trails climb through humid forest toward viewpoints over the South China Sea, mangroves, and the scattered villages below.

This is real tropical hiking: hot, steep, muddy after rain, and slower than distances suggest. Start early, carry water, and check trail conditions locally before attempting the harder routes. Even a shorter walk gives a strong taste of coastal Borneo, especially if combined with Damai, the Sarawak Cultural Village, or a river trip around the Santubong peninsula.
