Semenggoh, about 25 km south of Kuching, is the best place near the city to see semi-wild orangutans. The animals roam freely in the surrounding forest and come to a feeding platform twice daily — at around 9am and 3pm — when they can be observed at close range. Numbers at the platform vary with fruiting seasons; visits during fruit scarcity guarantee the best sightings. Entrance is around RM10.
