Armenia's largest art museum, occupying six floors above the History Museum on Republic Square. The collection runs from medieval Armenian church art and 17th-century painters of the Constantinople and Tiflis schools up through the 19th and 20th centuries — Hovhannes Aivazovsky's seascapes, Martiros Saryan's sun-soaked landscapes, and a strong Russian and European wing with works by Repin, Kandinsky, Chagall, Rubens, and Boucher.
The gallery often feels uncrowded for a national institution of its calibre. Take the lift to the top and work your way down. Closed Mondays.
