Blue Mosque

Address 12 Mashtots Avenue

The only working mosque in Armenia, built in 1766 when Yerevan was a provincial capital of the Persian Erivan Khanate. The complex consists of a four-iwan courtyard, a 24-metre minaret, a prayer hall under a sky-blue tiled dome, and a serene garden of plane trees and roses. After Soviet closure it was used as the city's Museum of Yerevan; in the 1990s the Iranian government funded its restoration and reopening for worship.

It is a calm corner in the middle of the city, often empty. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times; modest dress is expected.
