Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis is Lithuania's most celebrated artist and composer — a symbolist painter and modernist composer who created an extraordinary body of work before his death in 1911 at age 35. He spent 1907–08 in Vilnius, and the house on Savičiaus Street where he lived and worked is now a small museum.
The museum displays reproductions of Čiurlionis's paintings — the originals are at the National Čiurlionis Art Museum in Kaunas — alongside documents, photographs, and personal objects from his time in Vilnius. Chamber music concerts are held in the small room. Even without the original paintings, the museum provides useful context for his work: the Lithuanian folk tradition and symbolist painting that he synthesised into something entirely his own.
