Macedonian National Theatre

The Macedonian National Theatre stands beside the Vardar in a neoclassical building rebuilt in 2013 after the original 1927 theatre was lost in the 1963 earthquake. Its white facade, sculptural decoration, and lavish interior make it one of the more eye-catching buildings from Skopje's recent reconstruction era.

Even if you are not seeing a performance, it is worth a look while walking between the Stone Bridge, the museums, and the Old Bazaar. The building is also a useful example of the city's contested but visually assertive modern historicism.
