Skopje's Museum of Archaeology stands on the Vardar in one of the grand new classical buildings from the city's recent redevelopment. Inside, the collection runs from ancient pottery and jewellery to coins, sculpture, and finds from sites across North Macedonia.
The building is showy, but the museum is useful: it gives quick context for Scupi, the ancient Macedonian and Roman periods, and the deeper history behind the country's archaeological sites.
