The most fashionable neighbourhood in Bucharest, immediately north of the centre, where embassies, foreign correspondents, and the city's new money live. The streets are wide, the trees are old, and the architecture is a mix of inter-war modernist villas, neoromanian mansions, and a few Belle Epoque survivors.
Dorobanți has the best concentration of restaurants in the city and a long string of pleasant cafés along Calea Dorobanți and Strada Mendeleev. There are no monumental sights — this is a place for walking, eating, and looking at houses — but the area between Piața Romană and Piața Dorobanți rewards anyone curious about how Bucharest lived between the wars.
