All Saints' Antim Monastery

Quiet Brâncovenesc monastery near central Bucharest

Antim Monastery is a pocket of old Bucharest hidden close to the city's broad boulevards and government buildings. Founded in the early 18th century, it is associated with Antim Ivireanul and shows the carved stone, arcades and balanced proportions of the Brâncovenesc style.

It is a working monastery, so the visit should be quiet and unhurried. The contrast with nearby traffic and monumental communist-era urbanism is part of the experience: a small religious courtyard holding its ground in the city centre.
