The private collection of Krikor Zambaccian, an Armenian-Romanian art dealer who in 1947 donated his villa and 290 paintings to the Romanian state. The collection runs heavy on Romanian modernists — Grigorescu, Luchian, Pallady, Petrașcu, Tonitza — and includes Cézanne, Bonnard, Renoir, Matisse, and Pissarro.
It is a small museum and one of the most pleasant in Bucharest: a 1920s villa in the residential Floreasca district, with a garden, a single coherent collection, and rarely more than a handful of other visitors. The Pallady portraits and the Cézanne are reasons enough to make the trip. Closed on Tuesdays.
