The official museum of the Romanian armed forces, occupying a former 19th-century barracks west of the centre. The collection covers Romanian military history from the medieval principalities through both world wars to the present, with a large open-air display of aircraft, tanks, and artillery in the rear courtyard.
The most interesting sections cover the First World War — particularly the brutal 1916-1917 campaign on the Moldavian front — and the Romanian role in the Second World War. The aviation hall holds Romanian-built fighters and reconnaissance aircraft. Captions are partly in English. A second branch focused on naval history is in Constanța. Worth two hours for anyone interested in 20th-century European military history.
