A neogothic palace on the corner of University Square, finished in 1834 for the boyar Costache Grigore Șuțu, and one of the few palaces of pre-modern Bucharest to have survived in its original form. The grand interior — particularly the famous mirrored ballroom — was the heart of mid-19th-century Bucharest society life.
It now houses the Bucharest City Museum, with collections covering the city's history from prehistoric finds to the inter-war boom. The museum is small but the palace itself is the real exhibit; the carved-wood staircase and the mirror room repay the modest entry fee. Closed on Mondays.
