Bucharest History Museum occupies the elegant Șuțu Palace near University Square, an appropriate setting for a city that often hides its past behind traffic and concrete. The collections trace Bucharest from early settlement through princely, Ottoman, royal, and modern periods.
It is a good orientation stop before walking Lipscani, Calea Victoriei, or the civic centre. The museum will not explain every contradiction in Bucharest, but it gives useful context for a capital that has been rebuilt, damaged, enlarged, and reimagined several times.
