A huge brutalist theatre complex on University Square, named after Romania's greatest playwright Ion Luca Caragiale. The original 1973 building was clad in white travertine after a 2010s renovation, with a glass-walled rooftop café and a vast new terrace that opens onto Piața Universității.
Inside there are four stages, a bookshop, and Romania's main repertory company performing in Romanian (some productions have English surtitles; check the programme). Even if you do not attend a performance, the rooftop café is one of the best places to look down on University Square at sunset.
