Timisoara Art Museum

The Timisoara Art Museum occupies the Baroque Palace of the Banat Regional Government on Union Square — a long pale-yellow Baroque palace built between 1754 and 1774 to house the Habsburg provincial administration. The building itself, with its grand ceremonial staircase and frescoed ceiling, is part of the visit.

The collection covers European art from the 16th to the 20th century, with a strong section on Banat-region painters and a small but interesting set of Italian, Flemish and Dutch Old Masters that the regional administration acquired over the centuries. A contemporary art wing in the same building hosts rotating shows of Romanian and international artists. The museum is on most "single ticket" combinations with the National Museum of Banat at Huniade Castle.
