Dauerbach Palace

The Dauerbach Palace at the northern end of Victory Square is one of the city's finest Secession buildings, completed in 1913 by the architect László Székely. The four-storey corner block, in pale stucco with intricate floral ornamentation across the upper window surrounds and roofline, anchors the western side of the square and is among the most photographed buildings in central Timisoara.

The palace was originally a department store for the Dauerbach family and is now a mixed retail and residential building. The ground-floor and first-floor windows preserve their original wrought-iron and bronze fittings. The Stuttgart-trained Székely was the city's principal Secession architect from 1900 to 1920 and designed several of the central buildings along Victory Square and King Ferdinand Boulevard.
