The Old Town Hall (Primaria Veche) faces Liberty Square — a 1734 Baroque building of cream stucco and red roof tile, with a small clock tower above the entrance. It was the city's official town hall from 1734 until 1849, when the city outgrew the building.
Since 1923 the building has housed the Ion Vidu Music High School and the city's conservatory, and you can sometimes hear practice through the open windows in the warmer months. The interior is not open to the public except for occasional concerts and exhibitions, but the exterior is part of the Liberty Square ensemble — the most coherent surviving fragment of the original Habsburg garrison-town layout.
