The Dan Paltinisanu Stadium (named after the former Politehnica midfielder who died young) is the main football stadium of Timisoara, in the southern district just across the Bega from the centre. The current 32,000-seat structure was completed in 1963 and is the home ground of the city's flagship club, Politehnica Timișoara, who play in the lower professional divisions.
Match days bring a mix of local supporters and university students; the atmosphere is restrained by Romanian standards but the chants from the home end have changed little in decades. The stadium also occasionally hosts concerts and Romanian national team friendlies. A long-mooted modernisation or replacement remained unrealised at the time of writing.
