Three weeks every October and early November of theatre, dance, music, and visual art across every venue and plaza in the city — Latin America's most important international arts festival, drawing companies from around 30 countries. Past editions have featured Pina Bausch, the London Symphony, Daniel Barenboim, and the Beijing Opera. Tickets for the headline shows sell out months ahead; many smaller events are free.
The city is at its best during the festival but accommodation is correspondingly more expensive and harder to find. Book at least three months ahead, more for the central hotels.
