Templo de San Roque

A small early-eighteenth-century hermitage on the eponymous plazuela, built between 1726 and 1736 by Indian and mestizo workers and notable for the simplicity of its baroque façade. The single-nave interior has a humble painted wood roof and a small collection of polychrome saints. The plaza outside is more famous than the church inside — it is where the Cervantino festival began with open-air performances of Cervantes one-act plays.
