Randall Davey Audubon Center

Bird sanctuary and trail system at the end of Upper Canyon Road

A 135-acre nature preserve at the top of Upper Canyon Road, run by Audubon New Mexico. The property includes the historic home and studio of painter Randall Davey, hiking trails through the piñon-juniper foothills, and a streamside bird-watching meadow.

A good half-day if you want to stretch your legs without leaving the city. The home is open for tours by appointment. The trails climb steadily; allow extra time at altitude. Free entry to the grounds.
