Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian

Specialised museum of Navajo and Southwest jewellery

A small private museum on Museum Hill, founded in 1937 by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and the Navajo medicine man Hastiin Klah. The collection focuses on Native American jewellery — particularly Navajo and Pueblo silverwork — and contemporary artists' work.

The basement Case Trading Post is set up like a 1930s trading post, a reminder of how this kind of art moved from reservation to collector. Free entry; pair with the larger Museum Hill institutions.
