A roughly square area along Classen Boulevard between NW 23rd and NW 30th, settled by Vietnamese refugees in the late 1970s and now home to one of the largest Vietnamese-American communities west of the Mississippi. The district covers around forty restaurants, a couple of large supermarkets, herbalists, jewellers, and noodle shops crammed into strip malls and stand-alone buildings.
The Vietnamese food here is the best in the state — pho, bahn mi, banh xeo, hu tieu — and the supermarkets (Super Cao Nguyen is the biggest) reward an hour of wandering even if you're not buying anything. The Milk Bottle Grocery, an Art Deco landmark perched on top of a tiny building, is at the southern edge of the district.
