Opened in 2015 in the Magawish district, the Grand Aquarium is the largest public aquarium on the Egyptian Red Sea coast: a 24-tank walk-through with a 24-metre glass tunnel through the main shark and ray pool. The exhibits cover Red Sea species — clownfish, lionfish, eels, reef sharks — alongside a few Amazonian and Indonesian additions. The presentation is glossier than the older Marine Biology Museum in town, and the air-conditioning alone is welcome in the summer. A good two-hour stop for families, or for anyone whose dive day got blown out by wind.
