The flat, shallow lagoons south of Hurghada — particularly around Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and the bay at El Naga — get consistent north-northwest wind from March to November, which has built a serious kitesurfing scene. Schools operate out of most of the southern resorts: Kiteboarding Club Hurghada, Element Watersports, Soul Kiteboarding and others run multi-day IKO courses for beginners and rental for self-sufficient kiters. Wind is most reliable from May to September; expect 15–25 knots most afternoons. Bring a thin long-sleeve top for late-winter sessions when the water dips into the low 20s.
