Sakkala (often written Sekalla) is the middle district of Hurghada — the bridge between the old town of El Dahar to the north and the long resort strip to the south. It is where most visitors actually spend their evenings: the Sheraton Road runs through it lined with bars, restaurants, dive shops, tour operators, supermarkets and small hotels. The marina sits at the eastern end, where day boats leave for Giftun and the offshore reefs. Nightlife concentrates here too — Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, the Irish pubs and the shisha lounges are all within a few minutes' walk of each other.
The atmosphere is unmistakably touristy and the touts can be persistent, but Sakkala is also the most practical base for anyone who wants a mix of sea access and walkable streets.
