Sahl Hasheesh

Sahl Hasheesh is a self-contained luxury resort bay about 25 km south of central Hurghada, built from scratch in the 2000s on a stretch of previously empty desert coast. The bay arcs around a long sweep of white-sand beach with a coral reef just offshore, ringed by upmarket hotels — Oberoi, Premier Le Reve, Tropitel — connected by a beach promenade with a few cafes and shops. The artificially-built Old Town promenade tries hard for "Mediterranean village" character and almost gets there. The diving is good (the El Mina wreck lies offshore, a former Egyptian minesweeper deliberately sunk as a dive site in 1969) and the reef inside the bay is shallow enough for non-divers. If you want quiet and a polished beach without leaving Hurghada, this is the better choice than the central strip.
