Guiyuan Temple (Temple of Original Purity) is one of the four great Buddhist meditation temples of Hubei province. Founded in the early Qing dynasty (1644–1911) by two monks, Baiguang and Zhufeng, it takes its name from a Buddhist saying: "With purity kept in mind, one has the thoroughfare everywhere."
The temple covers nearly 47,000 square meters and centers on the Daxiongbaodian Hall. The Arhat Hall is the main draw — it holds 500 clay sculptures of Buddhist disciples, each with a distinct face and posture, considered among the finest examples of religious sculpture in central China.
Though damaged and rebuilt several times, the current structure dates from the early Republic of China era. Designated a key national Buddhist temple in 1983. Open daily 8:30–17:00; admission 10 RMB.
