The Han Show Theatre, on the eastern shore of East Lake in Wuchang, is the most ambitious piece of late-2010s entertainment architecture in Wuhan — a red lacquer egg-shaped building, completed in 2014 by the Mark Fisher and Stufish design teams, custom-built for a single resident production: a multi-million-dollar acrobatic-water show called The Han Show.
The show itself, when it runs, is a Cirque-du-Soleil-style spectacle staged in a transforming pool that opens and closes inside the auditorium. It plays sporadically — check the current schedule. Even when the show is dark, the building is worth seeing from the lake: at night it glows red across the water and is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city's evening skyline.
