Mochou Lake Park

Mochou Lake Park is a quieter inlet on the western edge of East Lake, popular with locals for early-morning tai chi and weekend picnics. The lake is small enough to walk around in an hour, and the surrounding park has the usual Chinese-park complement of willow-shaded paths, lakeside teahouses, and a pavilion or two.

The park is named for Mochou — Lady No-Sorrow — a legendary figure from Tang dynasty poetry. The name reappears in dozens of parks across central China. This particular Mochou Lake gives the most direct shoreline access on the eastern side of Wuhan and is a good spot for a slow afternoon stroll.
