Han River Confluence

The Han River meets the Yangtze at Wuhan, and the three towns that make up the modern city — Wuchang, Hankou, Hanyang — owe their separate identities to the geography of the confluence. The waters of the Han are noticeably greener and clearer than the silt-brown Yangtze, and at the meeting point a visible line runs out from the riverbank where the two flows mingle before merging.

The promenade along the foot of Tortoise Hill in Hanyang gives the best view of the confluence. A footbridge crosses the mouth of the Han and walking it puts you between the two rivers. The Qingchuan Pavilion stands on the hill above the meeting point.
