Wuhan Railway Station, on the eastern outskirts of the city, is one of the three large stations serving Wuhan and the newest of them — a vast aluminium-clad terminal opened in 2009 to handle high-speed traffic between Beijing and Guangzhou. The roof, designed to evoke the wingspan of a yellow crane, is one of the more spectacular pieces of contemporary Chinese station architecture.
Most travellers arrive or leave from here, but the building itself is worth a few minutes of curiosity if you have time on a connection. Hankou and Wuchang stations, both nearer the centre, handle the bulk of the older long-distance and regional services.
